I actually don't know anyone who has spent hours studying Bitcoin and ended up thinking it's a scam. The problem, as you said here, is that people associate their negative perception of Bitcoin (that comes from social media and the news) with the fact that it's bad. It's like forming an opinion about it before diving deeply into it.
The human bias to automatically dismiss or write things off that we don't understand is quite strong. I'm not overly proud to admit that at one point I was more or less convinced that crypto in general was a scam. In my opinion one of the greatest cognitive freedoms we are afforded is that we are allowed to have an opinion and then revise that opinion when new information or facts come to light. To me this is a sign of cognitive maturity that I am not even sure that everyone gets to.
My opinion was that crypto was a scam but this opinion did not hold up to scrutiny or to new evidence being brought to light. I had no choice other than to revise this opinion and eventually embrace crypto and Bitcoin.
